Born in Sarajevo at a time when traditional music was enjoying immense popularity across the former Yugoslavia, Amira Medunjanin developed a deep connection with sevdalinka from an early age.
The songs she learned from her mother sparked a lifelong fascination that led her to explore the expressive possibilities of her own voice and to bring new life to this rich musical tradition. Following her appearance on A Secret Gate, an album by Mostar Sevdah Reunion, Amira released her debut solo album Rosa in 2005. The album immediately attracted international attention, with The Sunday Times describing it as a masterpiece of world music. Praised both for its contemporary approach to preserving cultural heritage and for its intimate, minimalist arrangements, Rosa marked the beginning of a remarkable international career. Since then, Amira has released numerous acclaimed albums and performed on prestigious stages around the world.
Today, she is widely regarded as one of the leading interpreters of traditional music, not only in the Balkans but internationally.
This will be her first performance in Karlovac.
